If only indeed. You however, being where you are, doing what you do, are way ahead of the rest of us who long for what you've got. You are an inspiration to us all.
Thank you for sharing this, I usually make it into tea or infusions right after it's dried - but it's good to know I should keep some whole for later use also.
Dear Terri, it is such a joy watching your videos. They nourish my Celtic soul from across the world (in Aus) , even the weather! Not that I am able to create an apothecary right now, but, this video was like a memory, a past (concurrent) life that I am familiar with. Did you notice how our name can be turned to earth with the change of one letter - terra - I love that because I am a real Earth Mother too. Re your previous video, I too totally relate and agree... much love & more inspiration and energy to you. Terri :)
In these times I think we do need to go back to basics, grow more food, make more of our medicines. I do have an apothecary of sorts. Not as ambitious as once I was, but I always have some of my dried home herbs on hand. I also used paper bags to dry herbs. I dry culinary as well as medicinal herbs. One of the main parts of my own apothecary has become "hydrosols" = herbal and floral waters. I have a large copper still, and use to mostly for rose (mostly my damask roses), lavender, rose geranium, and rosemary, though I often do more kinds. I sell the mister bottles of these, or bulk pint jars, and have a cool spot in my shady, tiled bathroom to store the jars of hydrosols. In dry California just spraying off with hydrosol is beneficial to the skin, rejuvenating, cooling, aromatically healing. When distilling all the oils and beneficial medicines within the herbs and flowers are preserved too. We make teas as well. I prefer to get my salves and face creams from talented friends who often use my hydrosols in their preparations as well. Thank you as always for the film and the information, always given with such thoughtful love.
That sounds wonderfulk. I have been thinking of getting copper still for the last 8 months or so and have to make decision to commit to getting one. I think you have just sold me on it! xx
I too have had to magnify my focus on the heart, especially when I have been greeted by mess left behind such as in public conveniences and litter strune on the roadsides in country areas of the UK. I even saw a teenager kick his rubbish into a garden.I feel is passive aggressive behavior and anger that is eating away at people and that if your not grounded and aware of this, you too can become a catalyst for it, if your not careful.I have had to step back and observe, seeing it for what it is.I tidy up and leave the area sending out love.
That is so true. Where can we direct anger if politicians refuse to listen? It becomes turned on each other so you are so good and so right to send out love instead of getting caught up in it - and that is hard work xx
Everything was so perfectly organized in all the right ways. I will watch again and make notes of what I can use to set mine up better. Last year was scrambled with a move right in the middle of harvest.
Politicians tell people what they'd like to hear and then when they get the majority vote renaige on their promises. To be a politician you have to have a degree in lying. I expect nothing of them. The system hood winks us into believing that we have a choice and that it is democratic. It is still however archaic and unfortunately money is being made from people's pain.It is up to each one of us to be as independent as we possibly can and to see our own path through it all.xx
I do love the whole process of distilling, and it conjures up rather exotic images using the copper stills rather than the more modern stainless steel ones some have. And the delicious smell as the concentrated essence comes dripping down into the catch jar! I did at first hope to make my own oils too, and bought an essencier, (I think that's the name). But it takes way more herb or flowers than I have to even get a few drops, so I gave that up!
Thank you, Terri! You offer so much information and spirit in your videos! I resonate so much with your messages, and am so grateful we get to hear you! I have been developing my own herbal apothecary. I didn't realize it was good to keep my dried herbs in bags, I thought I was just being lazy, and should be getting them in jars to store, so imagine my delight to see that it is perfectly fine to keep them this way!! Blessings to you, and everyone else in this community!
I am referring to last week's video. As you mentioned Hay House, this reminded me of Louise Hay's affirmation that I have written in my 2025 diary : "All is well. Everything is working out for my highest good. Out of this situation, only good will come. I AM SAFE". It is very powerful. Try it and observe what happens in your body. For me I move from a constriction mode to an expansion mode.
I do have question, you use nettles, but what about Iron overload? My family has the too much iron problem, and maybe that is why i cannot stand nettles. I try to do various thinks like keep the copper good,(seeing as copper opens the door of the cells to iron can get in an be useful, in stead of destructive oxidizing in unhelpful ways and places) i wonder what you might suggest?
It sounds as if you have haemochromatosis in which case you would be advised to avoid Nettles, depending on the type of haemochromatosis you have. I think it is Zinc you need to take as it is an antagonist to iron. xx
I think you are right. a young relative who was getting her lab tech degree had to do a lot of blood analysis, so we of course volunteered. but i had suspected it for ages. This may explain why i could not stand nettles. nettles taste like metals to me. I will try the zinc, thank you.
Thank you so much for a closer look into your apothecary! I look forward to your weekly videos, they fill me with so much solace. Helps to look away from the chaos in the world. Blessings to you Terri.
I love that all your animals are tucked in from the weather. Your weather and the wet at the moment reminds me of when I lived in Prince Rupert BC Canada, torrential rains all the time. Four days ago we were at -40C here in Alberta Canada and now we are 5C above. Strange country. Stay dry and warm and enjoy getting your seeds looked after. Would love to have an apothecary but at least I read a lot of books where they are featured. Hugs.
Books are the best, just make sure they are written by humans who practise herbalism. I have heard that some are written by AI - so no author and can't be guaranteed good quality information. xx
I need Lol to build such beautiful shelves. You have encouraged me to get more organized with the closet I have started for herbs that does not get light but is kind of warm in the winter.
I was moving last year in the middle of harvest but it was first year for herbs at this house so this year will be better. A farmer in next town will be growing cabbages and potatoes for me so I will have more time for herbs. I look forward to doing some fermenting which some herbs add to health and flavor.

Your dogs scampering off at the end are the best medicine. I wish we could bottle that feeling for the joy they give us.
If only! I know they are teaching me to be in the NOW but I am finding it difficult to learn the lesson xx

It is a good idea because it prevents a more rapid breakdown of the plant material xx

Yes, it helps the dried herbs to last for longer. I put them in jars once I am ready to use them xx
