Once you start working with herbs, with our precious plant medicines, there comes a time when you have to organise an apothecary. An apothecary is a place to dry, process and make medicine with plants. It can be a drawer or a shelf in your kitchen or any designated space. My apothecary is in my home office. I grow and forage for plants outside and bring them in to either dry for tea or to tincture.

Danu's Irish Herb Garden Substack is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

This is the place where I have my equipment - baskets, bottles, chopping board, measuring jugs, muslin, paper bags, pans, funnels, and more. It is a personal thing - you will find you use certain items that work for you. But don’t forget the labels!! I also have my precious books here so I can easily refer to them.

I have more to do yet with this space, to make it my own - I have just re-organised it and have a new cupboard and I want to paint flowers and vines along the shelves and at the top of the walls.

As the year progresses, I will be bringing the outside in and this apothecary will become green and fragrant and uplifting.

Let me know if you have an apothecary and what is your favourite part and what is your favourite activity there.
