As a single parent of three special needs children I focused on natural and healthy food. Very poor but I made sourdough bread at least once a week. A vegetarian diet (ovo-lactam) raw milk when I could share a cow with others and just focused on sourcing the best I could local. We had good health as a result so no need for doctors/dentists or behavioral problems. Diet is the key with a healthy mind set and laughter mixed with gratitude. Same program for my private schools so we did not have issues in larger groups of children either. thank you for the focus on these facts!!!! Brock was sending love this week.
It warms my heart to see your slip of trees grown so well. I remember watching and learning from you as you planted them years ago to balance the water level. A new idea for me at the time. Really a wonderful Polly tunnel!!! I wish I had one but we live in a very windy place so no one has one here. Cuba learned to grow everywhere and mastered the organic method when they were cut off from the world with communism. All those lovely greens to mix in soups, sauté with rice. Last year was my first year so this year I have plantain coming up soon. Kind of early but I hope some other plantings show again like the chamomile is here now.
Going smaller this year and planting more live plants. Still plan to sell and move if life allow that. I have two organic food sources this year so no potatoes or cabbage.
So many great recommends there. Vandana Shiva also has books and a recent movie ( a documentary) on this subject too. Growing your own anything and/or eating local seems to affirm it's own benefits immediately.
I’m trying a bit harder this year with my veggies. I’m starting them from seed on the windowsill and will plant out once the danger of frost has mostly passed. I always have tatties as you can’t really go wrong with them I planted garlic in October from last years crop. I’m doing onion sets for the first time and also corn and peas as the grandkids love them isn’t spring exciting I love being back in the garden again. Great video as usual x
Thanks for the flick and visit with you in lovely Ireland. We too are fortunate, as are you, to have land to grow and glean food off. Many are not, and I know struggle to find good sources of nutrition. Especially if they live in cities. I think you give them hope and some ideas and suggestions as to possible ways to enhance their food, and why it is a good idea. "We are what we eat," applies! Not only do we live on land we can grow food on, but we live in an area rich in good food sources. Places to buy organic food, even in our supermarkets, abound. We can buy bulk dry goods as well as fruit and veg when our gardens are not producing. And nowadays so much is imported from warmer climes for off-season eating. However, as in Europe, here in the U.S. we are on the brink of many food shortages, so growing our own, as much as we can, is a good idea. The kittens are growing! The dogs are smiling and content! Love seeing them as well as all else.
What was I thinking? I was trimming down my subscriptions, and I stopped yours. I watched this video and realized…that was a mistake!
You are a true teacher. Your messages come through in a calm and caring way.
Everything I do is for food. A few years ago, we decided…why the heck not! We moved to the country and bought a couple acres with a house, because we wanted to grow our own food. We (in USA) heard our older relatives talk about how delicious fruits/veg were when they were young. Well, we really love good food and dedicated ourselves to learning how to grow our own food. We feel so blessed. It has changed our reality in a beautiful way. Plus, we eat the Most Delicious food!

Yes and I think the benefits are more noticeable the worse the diet was beforehand
It's an exciting time of year, thinking and planning what's happening with the garden this year. 🍃
